Medicare supplements works alongside original Medicare and are sometimes referred to as medigap policies. Patients often purchase these policies to pay health care costs that Medicare does not cover. A medigap or Medicare supplement policy will typically cover many if not all the co-insurance or deductibles for services approved by Medicare.
Rising health care costs make having a Medicare supplement plan virtually a requirement in order to ensure that health care is available when needed. Medicare on its own provides vital health care services and is very beneficial to those approaching retirement age. However, it does not cover all the costs of being sick, which pushes overflow expenses onto patients, which can be financially difficult during the retirement years.
You have the right to buy a Medicare supplement policy during the Medicare open enrollment period, which lasts six months. This period begins on the first day of the month when two crucial factors are true: you are aged 65 or older, and you have enrolled in Medicare Part B.
Throughout this open enrollment time, insurance companies cannot deny you insurance coverage or the right to buy a supplemental policy. Request a quote to determine what supplemental plan will be best for your needs.
